GARETH BEYNON LVO. FRCS(Ed) FRCOG

Consultant Gynaecologist

 
Gareth Beynon is a Senior Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Frimley Park Hospital.

He trained at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, qualifying as a doctor in 1982. He gained the FRCS (Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons) of Edinburgh, before working in his chosen specialty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, becoming a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists in 1991. Prior to his appointment as a Consultant, Mr. Beynon gained experience in gynaecological cancer, colposcopy and minimal access surgery at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead, a world-renowned centre for gynaecological cancer, Southampton and Portsmouth Hospitals.

CONSULTANT EXPERIENCE

Mr. Beynon was appointed as a Consultant at Frimley Park Hospital in 1998. He was instrumental in the development of one of the first multi-disciplinary teams for the management of women with gynaecological cancer in any District General Hospital in the UK. He was the Foundation Chair of the Surrey, Sussex and West Hampshire Gynaecological Cancer Network.

As a General Gynaecologist, Mr. Beynon has extensive experience in treating a wide range of conditions in both NHS and Private Practice.

From January 2009 he was Clinical Director for Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Frimley Park until October 2014 when he was appointed as the first Chief of Service in Obstetrics & Gynaecology for Frimley Health which was comprised Frimley Park, Wexham Park and Heatherwood Hospitals whilst holding these positions, Mr. Beynon was a member of the Hospital Trust Executive Committee . He resigned from this post in April 2017 and is currently Chair of the Consultant Staff Committee at Frimley Park.

In 2004 Mr. Beynon was made a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order (LVO) by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth.


SPECIAL INTERESTS

Mr. Beynon’s special interests include gynaecological cancer and colposcopy. He is currently lead Colposcopist at Frimley Park. The results of his surveillance of low-grade abnormalities of the cervix have been presented at national meetings. His technique of vaginal endoscopic oophorectomy (surgical removal of the ovaries), which leads to enhanced recovery and reduced pain, was presented at the recent European Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy Annual Meeting and it is the first time this particular operation has been performed. Other surgical interests include HELICA treatment for endometriosis (results of treatment on Mr. Beynon’s patients were the first to be published in a medical journal), vaginal hysterectomy with vaginal removal of the ovaries, and disorders of the vulva (Mr. Beynon is lead gynaecologist for a mutli-disciplinary clinic for vulval disorders, conducted jointly with a Consultant Dermatologist, at Frimley Park.


PERSONAL

Gareth Beynon is married with four children. His main sporting interest is rugby, and he has taken pride in coaching his son and daughter’s teams. Other interests include running to keep fit and travel.
